Popular culture and the mainstream academia which feeds them credit Plato with having come up with the name Atlantis (repeated from the report by the priests at Sais in the Nile delta); the Atlantis story now commonly thought to be fiction (only the date is really), so did Plato sail across the Atlantic to tell the mesoamerican Mayans that the name of the ocean is Atlantic, and that they should name towns there Atlan, having worshipped sea gods such as Atlanteotl and Atlahua, and harkening back to their homeland named Atlan “across the eastern ocean?”

Clearly the word Atlan, from the root atl, meaning water, was in use in the Americas long before Plato’s time, because they were the offspring of Maya, a sister of Atlas, children of Posidon, who was Sidon, a son of Canaan (where atl meant water too), a son of Ham, anciently also known as Chronos, who measured time, the earth’s wobble rate, which is the basis of the mayan calendar, the timekeeping method explained in article #2 at http://IceAgeCivilizations.com, used during the bronze age, the time of Plato’s Atlantis, when “Atlan” went under really circa 1500 b.c., the tribe of Atlas’ sister Maya, already established in mesoamerica as the Olmecs by that time.
